How it works

Three steps, one minute of teaching.

01

Pick one idea

One concept, one minute. The best entries teach something a student can use straight away.

02

Record and produce it

Record on any camera or phone, then produce it in Lecture Studio. The free minutes cover it.

Rules

The rules in plain words.

This is the draft. The final rules are published here when entries open on 17 November; where they differ, the final rules apply.

  1. Who can enter. Anyone aged 18 or over who teaches, trains or tutors, anywhere the competition is lawful. Entries are void where prohibited and from countries under comprehensive sanctions. Lecture Studio staff, judges and their households cannot enter.
  2. The lesson. Teach one idea in 60 seconds or less, measured by the video player's clock. Anything longer is disqualified. You must be the only identifiable person in the video, and it must be your own voice and face: no AI presenter, avatar or synthetic voice.
  3. How to enter. Record your lesson, produce it in Lecture Studio (your first 5 Studio minutes are free, so no purchase is needed), and submit the video's share link with the form on this page. One entry per person.
  4. Dates. Entries open Tuesday 17 November 2026 and close at 11:59 pm UTC on Sunday 6 December 2026. Twelve finalists are announced on Thursday 10 December. The People's Choice vote runs from 10 to 17 December. Winners are announced on Friday 18 December.
  5. Categories. Sciences and engineering; Humanities, business and social sciences; Skills and professional. We may move an entry to the category that fits it best.
  6. Judging. A jury, including at least one independent judge, scores every valid entry on clarity of the explanation (40%), engagement (30%), originality (20%) and keeping to the rules (10%). The jury picks four finalists per category and one winner per category. The jury's decision is final.
  7. People's Choice. Anyone can vote for one finalist a day with a verified email address. Running totals are hidden. Votes that look automated or bought are removed, and an entrant who arranges them may be disqualified.
  8. Prizes. Each category winner receives 200 Studio minutes, the People's Choice winner 100 and every other finalist 30, plus a certificate and a feature on our channels. Prizes are credited to the winner's Lecture Studio account, have no cash value and cannot be transferred. Winners are responsible for any tax that applies where they live.
  9. Your rights. You keep ownership of your lesson. By entering, you give Lecture Studio a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to show, clip and share it, with credit to you, to promote the competition and Lecture Studio, and you consent to the use of your name, likeness and voice for that purpose. You can ask us to stop using it in new material at any time.
  10. Fair play. We may disqualify entries that break these rules, include material you don't have the right to use, or are offensive or misleading. We may change or cancel the competition if something outside our control requires it, and will say so on this page.
